An open invitation has been extended to Zan Zhurong’s Fire Eating Fund Raiser in support of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, organised by Suzanne Wood.
The event is to take place on Sunday 15th September, down at the very wonderful Dorothy Pax Bar on Victoria Quays, Sheffield. It starts at 4pm. There are no entry fees and all are welcome. It will be a fun afternoon/evening, with, Jenga, Video horse racing, Raffles, Food, Music maybe Mermaids, and lots of fun.
Suzanne or ZanZhurong as she is now known, is aiming to raise £1,000 (but is secretly hoping for more, much more)
When asked why are these charities so important to her she answered with the comment – “because I have seen the work they do first hand, it is amazing and awe-inspiring.” She explained “When my beautiful niece Katie, at the age of 10, needed the Oncology Department, the Children’s Hospital were there. Working their magic, helping and supporting. Then my niece lost her best friend Natalie, to MND at the age of just 29 years. Followed only 12 months later by our cousin, David. The MND Association were there for both, giving care, help and support”
Then she added “I am no one, no one special anyway – but I am someone who has spent many years caring for those whose lives have been turned upside down by the misery of illness and loss. Now, as I have just become a Senior Citizen, I realise it is time for me to get out there and do something worthwhile”
Then when she was asked how she was feeling about the event, she grimaced and said “nervous – no frightened, but it is too late to back out now”
The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity offers invaluable support when it comes to funding research. They have opened a brand new Paediatric Clinical Research Facility. This will develop pioneering work in areas such as bone disease, genetics and cancer. They are raising funds to build a better Emergency Department, A Helipad and A Cancer and Leukaemia Ward. They lighten and brighten the wards and the departments.
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It can leave people ‘locked’ in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breath. It has no cure. The MND Association work to improve care for people with MND and support for their families. The funds they raise promote research that brings them closer to a cure. They campaign to raise awareness and the Association relies almost entirely on voluntary donations.
