Minds Idle is a psychedelic pop band, based in Sheffield, England, whose heads have been infected by their parents record collections. Their dreamy, nostalgic sound nods (violently) to the lost music of the 60s and 70s. A clear focus on melody drives their songs, taking notes from the obvious suspects; The Beatles, The Kinks, The Velvet Underground . However, thrown into the melting pot, we get the swirling fuzz frenzy of forgotten garage bands of that era; The Remains , The Seeds , along with the bouncing rhythm of the soul and Motown greats. A clear sense of humour is what defines the band, though; playfully aware of the cheese of their 60s heroes, which shows in tracks like the tongue in cheek ‘Harry’ and the blown-out ballad ‘All This Time’.
“The band combine the warm glow of nostalgia for legendary music with their own youthful energy and joy, making for a sound that’s both familiar and modern. Minds idle are onto a winner with this sound they’ve crafted; the way it makes you feel is a testament to that. It’s like a big hug from an old mate you haven’t seen in years. Get ‘All This Time’ on your road trip playlist as soon as you can.”
