HUNGARIAN LANTERNS introduce sets from this esteemed quartet –

Chris Murphy
Singer/songwriter, guitarist and tutor in Sheffield, Chris Murphy first trained in classical guitar before moving to folk. Chris sites Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Richard Thompson, Nick Drake and Ryley Walker as massive influences. He’s been called ‘a maker of epic songs’ (Sheffield Star) and ‘ridiculously accomplished’ (Exposed Magazine).

Break a Leg!
Their stripped-back combination of voice, clarinet and guitar is quite different and unexpected. They mix folk, jazz songs and their own songs with passion and feeling. Recent gigs have also featured Karen letting rip on the saxophone. They have a loyal following in Sheffield, their local gigs often sell out, and won the 2015 Edinburgh Folk Songwriting Competition with their poignant tale Harriet Quimby.

“They are bloody good. Last Thursday, they regaled us with renditions of songs ranging from the traditional, through Jazz to Radio 2 all delivered in great style with Karen Hisom’s clarinet playing complementing Chris Rust’s singing.” – Crookes Folk Club

Silk & Custard
Are an acoustic duo based in South Yorkshire, England. Well known on the local Open Mic circuit they are an up and coming folk country pop fusion with subtle yet complex original music encompassing emphatic solitude, love, longing and loss.

“Beautifully enchanting harmonies with catchy melodies that entice the listener through raw dynamics which are growing both in boldness and maturity with each performance.”

Book of Birds
Are a Sheffield based band. We perform original songs and tunes as well as covers including Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bob Dylan and our own arrangements of trad. folk. Our line up includes vocals, guitar, melodeon, recorder, cajon and keyboards.
