In the coming together of acclaimed alt-folk artists ‘Ceitidh Mac’ and ‘Good Habits’, both acts feature singer-cellists amongst unlikely instrumental combinations (vibraphone and accordion). With the reflective songwriting and defined folk-fusion sounds, they each explore their uncharted instrumental territories in two totally unique ways.
Ceitidh Mac:
A Welsh-born Tynesider, Ceitidh Mac is a Newcastle-based alt-folk cellist/singer with a progressive twist to her music. Ceitidh is pronounced Katie, spelt the Gaelic way. Think Ceitidh with a T.
Her live show is an innovative take on traditional and alternative folk songs, sitting alongside her own original material which explores topics ranging from illuminating everyday experiences to subjects of her deeper self-reflection.
Ceitidh released her ‘I Reach For The Pen’ EP receiving support and radio plays from BBC Radio 2 BBC Radio 6 Music, and local and national support from BBC Introducing. The First single was A-listed by Amazing Radio as well as featuring on their Chart. She also garnered press coverage from Fresh on the New, Velvet Sheep, Narc, and NE Volume among others, as well as winning the ‘Tune In To Nature Prize’ 2021.
Good Habits:
Described as “engagingly clear across a rich variety of styles” (Songlines), Good Habits are a UK alt-folk duo, telling stories and turning heads across the globe. Composed of singer-cellist Bonnie Schwarz and accordionist Pete Shaw, the duo create folk-ish musical tales, with captivating lyrics married with their unique brand of brisk instrumental virtuosity.
During time spent happily stranded in New Zealand because of the pandemic, Good Habits have performed alongside the country’s top acts including Nadia Reid and won the Purbeck Folk Rising Award 2020. Debut album Going For Broke received glowing press in Songlines and the New Zealand Herald, and their hectic tour schedule has included performances at New Zealand’s largest festivals, including CubaDupa, TSB Festival of Lights, Luminate and countless other independent venues. Their homecoming in October 2021 saw performances at Manchester Folk Festival, BBC appearances (BBC Introducing and BBC Folk Show) and much more.
